A collection of Nebraska travel posters featuring landmarks, attractions, and local culture from Seward, Nebraska.
Artist Bill Shaffer began this series after receiving a newspaper article from 1899 claiming that few people visited Lincoln except for the state penitentiary, state capitol, or state asylum. Inspired by the article, Shaffer set out to create posters celebrating the places that make Nebraska communities distinctive.
Some posters take a tongue-in-cheek look at a community's quirks and unexpected attractions, while others celebrate the landmarks, landscapes, and local character that make it unique.
Drawing on influences ranging from historic travel advertising to independent publishing and graphic design, the series offers a uniquely Nebraskan portrait of towns, cities, landmarks, and roadside destinations across the state.
